Are there any special quailites associated with obsidian? What I have appears to be a 'gold -sheen' black obsidian egg,how is that different from silver or rainbow sheen obsidian? Or are these 3 basically the same? I've found this stone to be very calming and protective, has eased nightmares in the past, just all around an favorite of mine.I'm just curious about any other attributes with this stone.

Re: Question about obsidian?
Fri, July 11, 2008 - 5:15 AMObsidian is a black volcanic glass. It is often used to make mirrors for various uses. Combine both of these attributes and you have something that helps people look at deep, dark issues - some of which they don't want to look at - with the potential to bring them up with volcanic force. Use consciously and cautiously, and aware of what you are embarking on.
(Please note this commentary is based on personal experience a few times over, and confirmed by others outside my circle of friends.)

Re: Question about obsidian?
Fri, July 11, 2008 - 7:37 AMI will always state each stone speaks to each person in their own unique language and gifts for each other.
However, I have been told to carry a piece of obsidian to help keep negative energy away from me. I know a Native American of Mexico that lines both sides of the entry to his home with it to keep negative energies away. By the way, I do not usually carry obsidian with me. -

Re: Question about obsidian?
Fri, July 11, 2008 - 11:30 AMThanks everyone,I don't carry mine with me,mostly due to it's size,it's one of the stones that 'found me' and I can attest to it keeping negativity away,it has repelled one such person that at the time was very destructive. For the most part,I have found it more soothing than overwhelming,I've always had a tendency to brood and for some reason this stone has always released what was bothering me.Makes sense now, thanks again!
