Re: Space Crystals
Sat, April 25, 2009 - 3:14 PMSure we have them from meterorites colliding with earth. Anyone know how the compositions vary to the crystals formed here on the planet? -

Re: Space Crystals
Sat, April 25, 2009 - 7:15 PMacts as psuedomorphs where the crystals take on different minerals from the impact. Depending on the type of meteor and where it would land, would greatly vary according to the locations mineral composition and the similarities of compounds within the pre-existing stones and the meteor that collided into it.

Fri, May 1, 2009 - 6:43 AMThanks for the posts! Wonder if these metorites would get hot and melded all the time?
Moldivite I think is one - I don't know alot about them but would like to know more.
Is there a list to be found somewhere about the diferant types? -

Re: Space Crystals
Fri, May 1, 2009 - 6:51 AMThe curious thing about moldavite is that it is not a crystal - it is a glass. So then why does something that is amorphous has such a powerful effect on people? It's a mystery which points to a greater reality in which we come to understand that all matter interacts with us. With moldavite it would appear that the enormous "shock" of tektite collision has somehow been recorded in the glass. It may also be that the beryllium in moldavite is a big contributor to the bioeffects. Beryllium is what zings phenacite and herderite. -

Re: Space Crystals
Sat, May 2, 2009 - 11:08 AMgo figure, the combo of phenacite, herderite, and moldavite is a serious one...
I have decided that I would prefer to stick to more earthly stones for the using... Since meteorites are all the rage, I am sure that other people won't mind me backing off of them slowly (smile, back away, smile, back away slowly! hehehe) and sticking to more grounding and angel stones...
If you want some immediate results from space, meteorites are the way to go... just make sure that you are grounded enough to handle the impact! hahaha

Re: Space Crystals
Sun, May 3, 2009 - 5:30 AMI was looking through an old astronomy book once and found a black and white photo of a meterite that was opened - inside was differant material than the outer shell and although no colors was apparent they appeared as rectangular areas spaced throughout the material of the shell, like fruit in jello.
I found some information about the 'theory' behind some of the materials found looking up some of the key words you gave
"Tektites are still poorly understood. They are irregularly- and at times intricately-shaped nodules and blobs of a glassy substance. They have no crystal structure, and are therefore similar to obsidian, but are not associated with volcanic processes. Their chemistry is unique and somewhat unexplained.
The leading theory concerning their origin is the "Meteorite Impact Theory". It is postulated that many odd events occur during a meteor's impact because of the tremendous heat and pressure produced. Tektites may be fused glass that formed during an impact of a meteor with layers of rock on the Earth's surface. Tektites occur in broad bands in specific localities in different parts of the world. These bands produce characteristically similar tektites and are sometimes loosely associated with meteorite craters or suspected craters. Could these fields represent splash material from an impact? Many believe so and this idea is gaining acceptance from many scientists. The odd and diverse chemistry of the tektites could be a result of unique meteorites hitting unique rock types with the combinations producing particular effects. "

Sun, May 3, 2009 - 7:01 AMWith regard to moldavite the impact crater and splash field are well known and described. -

Re: Space Crystals
Mon, May 4, 2009 - 8:29 PMi heard moldavites are pieces of the moon that broke off and flew to on a meteor....like that theory -

Tue, May 5, 2009 - 12:05 AMI heard that they were alien's toenails...
Oh the theories that ensue!

Re: Space Crystals
Tue, May 5, 2009 - 12:40 PMThere was an old theory that moldavite was material ejected from volcanos on the moon, so maybe that's what you heard. This is from a showcase in the main show in Denver, 9/07:
"Norlinger-Ries & Steinheimer Craters
14.7 million years ago a binary asteroid 1.5 and 0.6 km in diameter slammed into the earth at 20 km per second. The energy released by this impact was equivalent to the power from 2 million hydrogen bombs. The larger piece formed the 25 km diameter Nordlinger Ries crater. The smaller piece formed the 3.8 km diameter Steinheimer crater. These impacts melted the quartz rich crust and splashed the resulting green melt high into the atmosphere where it cooled and fell back to the earth's surface as the green glass we now call MOLDAVITES." -

Re: Space Crystals
Mon, May 18, 2009 - 10:32 AMThose craters are amazing!
Are there any other crater areas where special crystals were found like these are is this a rare event?
The binary componant of the Asteroids seems odd - maybe they got bumped from the Asteroid belt by a comet or something.
The Moldavites look like metal shavings fused together - I wonder if they are magnetic? -
-
Re: Space Crystals
Mon, May 18, 2009 - 10:39 AMThey aren't magnetic - at least so's you notice - although there is iron in them. You should get a piece to experience. Moldavite is one of the wonders of the world. -

Re: Space Crystals
Mon, June 1, 2009 - 8:04 PMI want some Moldavite! It's like catnip to Pisces people I hear. -

Sat, June 6, 2009 - 2:20 PMInteresting!
Although the binary asteroid impact gave us this wonder, maybe there is something more interesting for Pisces people? -

Re: Space Crystals
Sun, July 12, 2009 - 6:02 AMI haven't looked much into it yet but came across info the Peridot is found on the Moon, Mars and meteorites. Anyone heard about this if it's true or not? -
-
Re: Space Crystals
Sun, July 12, 2009 - 7:51 AMI thought peridot came from volcanic activity mostly but it seems that occasionally it will fall out of the sky.
From 4facets.com:
"A Gem Born of Fire... Often called the “volcanic gem,” peridot usually forms in the rocks created by violent volcanic activity. On rare occasions, peridot also has been found in meteorites that have fallen to earth. "
Since the moon doesn't have evidence of volcanic activity I highly doubt Peridot could be found on the moon. -

Re: Space Crystals
Thu, July 30, 2009 - 11:12 PMI had a dream that I saw some crystals fall from the moon and I collected them. They were so gorgeous and powerful. Of course, after that I had to have a meteorite. I found a great store in the Pike's Place market in Seattle. I think it was called Gem Heaven. They had quite a number of meteorites on display, so I got to hold a few before buying the right one. The one I chose had energy so strong that I literally couldn't hold it for a few months. When we finally got acquainted, and got more used to eachother, I got the courage to hold it and meditate with it. I felt as though I flew through the universe at an alarming speed. I felt like I had the tail of Haley's Comet in my hands. What a ride that was!!
